Dean Matlack

Dean Matlack is a Foreign Service Officer stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, where he works to promote trade and investment between the United States and the markets of Thailand, Cambodia and Laos.

Previously, Dean served three years in the Commercial Section of the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, where his work focused on assisting U.S. firms overcome standards related barriers and other obstacles to market access. Dean also served a two-year domestic assignment at the U.S. Export Assistance Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Prior to joining the foreign service Dean served as a Trade Policy Analyst in the office of the Deputy Undersecretary for International Trade at the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington DC. He joined the Commerce Department in 2001 on a Presidential Management Fellowship, during which he served a temporary assignment to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.

From 1994-1997, Dean was employed by the Japanese Ministry of Education as a language instructor and local coordinator for international relations in Kumamoto, Japan.

Dean holds a Master of Public Administration in International Management from the Monterey Institute of International Studies and a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Political Science from Weber University.
