Helen Hwang serves as the Chief of the Commercial Section at the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT). AIT’s Commercial Section has two offices in Taipei and Kaohsiung that assist U.S. and Taiwan companies. AIT Commercial Section implements the National Export Initiative (NEI), SelectUSA, and the National Travel and Tourism Strategy initiatives by finding business partners, promoting U.S. exports to Taiwan, encouraging Taiwan investment to the U.S., and protecting U.S. business interests.

With over twenty years of experience with the U.S. Department of Commerce, Ms. Hwang has served in several past postings that include Seoul, London, Richmond and Washington D.C. Ms. Hwang served two non-consecutive tours in Korea as a Commercial Attaché, then as the Deputy Senior Commercial Officer. At the American Embassy in London, she served as a Commercial Attaché, Director of the International Marketing Center, and Showcase Europe Travel and Tourism Coordinator. While in Richmond, Virginia, Ms. Hwang was the U.S. Department of Commerce’s U.S. Export Assistance Center Office Director. In headquarters in Washington, D.C., Ms. Hwang served as a Desk Officer in the Office of Latin America.

Ms. Hwang began her U.S. federal government career as a Presidential Management Fellow. She earned a B.A. degree in Economics and anM.A. degree in Foreign Affairs, both from the University of Virginia.
