Rosemary Gallant is the Senior Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta responsible for trade promotion and commercial affairs in Indonesia since 2014. In her prior position, Ms. Gallant was the Principal Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. Ms. Gallant moved to Beijing in 2008 following a four-year assignment at the US Mission to the European Union in Brussels. In Brussels she was the Commercial Attaché responsible for trade programs in the energy, environment, chemicals and information technology sectors as well as public procurement and EU-funded projects. She joined the US Department of Commerce Office of China in 1988 to work on bilateral trade policy issues. In 1991 she transferred into the Foreign Commercial Service and served as a Vice Consul and Commercial Officer at the US Consulate General in Shanghai (1991-94) and a Consul at the US Consulate General in Hong Kong (94-98). From 1998 until 2001, Ms. Gallant served as the Deputy Senior Commercial Officer at the American Institute in Taiwan. From 2001 until 2004 she was a senior international trade specialist at the Commerce Department’s Export Assistance Center in Connecticut. Ms. Gallant is the author of several articles on doing business in China published in Export America and China Business Review. She graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in Chinese and Economics. She studied in Beijing in 1982-83 and at the Hopkins Nanjing Center in 1986-87.
