March 30, 2015 With Vietnam's economic advance comes stark income inequality
Yesterday’s an LA Times article explained how members of Vietnam’s new wealthy elite are consuming luxury goods much like their counterparts in neighboring China:
“Sales of luxury models have grown at a similar pace, reaching 4,700 total units in 2014. A few years ago, Mercedes and BMW dominated a small luxury market here; now there are also Rolls, Porsche, Audi, Lexus and Infiniti — with Lamborghini in the wings. This surge is all the more remarkable, Gupta said, given that a car that costs $60,000 in the U.S. is close to $180,000 in Vietnam.”
APBO 2015 feature One-on-One meetings on Vietnam led by these speakers: Stuart Schaag from the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi as well as sessions with Herb Cochranof the American Chamber of Commerce in Ho Chi Minh City.
March 29, 2015 Keynote Speaker Feature: Don St. Pierre Jr.
We are pleased to introduce keynote speaker Don St. Pierre, co-founder and board member of ASC Fine Wines.
If you have enjoyed a glass or bottle of fine wine in China over the past decade, you can thank the efforts of Don and his father Don Sr. for developing the fast growing market for premium wines. Don will be sharing ASC’s origin story at APBO about how two foreigners with no prior experience in the wine industry recognized the growth potential for wine in China to become one of the largest markets in the world.

March 28, 2015 Keynote Speaker Feature: Brian Ward
We are happy to confirm Brian Ward of Colliers International as an APBO 2015 keynote speaker. Brian is the President of Capital Markets, Americas. Last October, he wrote the below commentary for CNBC.com explaining in part why Asian money is flooding American markets.
"Why is the level of Asian capital into U.S. commercial real estate recovering so aggressively?
Two primary reasons are:
1.There is too much capital chasing few investment opportunities; this is the case for all asset classes, including real estate, stocks and bonds.
2.Real estate has become a particularly enticing investment alternative globally as investors search for yield in relation to risk. While the U.K. has been a favorite market for Asian capital, the U.S. is rapidly catching up."
March 27, 2015 Confirmed Speaker Nick Vyas: Future Trends in Global Supply Chain
We are pleased that Prof. Nick Vyas of the USC Marshall School will speak on this topic at APBO 2015:
Future of Asia Supply Chain: Mapping of Cultures, Trends, and Technology
The world is changing rapidly. The emerging markets of Asia have become the focal point for global growth and transportation, making cultural awareness more important than ever before. New technological advances, like drone-based delivery, robotics, cloud computing and 3-D printing, are appearing on the horizon and will become the future of supply chain. Those that have the knowledge and understanding of these emerging trends will be the innovators and survivors of tomorrow.
Nick is Director, Center for Global Supply Chain Management at University of Southern California, USC, Marshall School of Business.
He said:"You can no longer survive in a silo of region/company/or country. It has to be spanned across the globe. Invariably you are going to be dealing with components outside your border. One must understand those components, and be very good at it."
